Founded by Ky and Am Nguyen, sfm is a company with a simple and inspiring story of hard work and persistence. The family run business now supplies hardwood furniture to boutique stores across Australia and has built a reputation for quality and service from humble beginnings.

The furniture is made from Jarrah and Marri, which is hand selected, sanded, assembled and polished in a small workshop north of Perth city in Western Australia. All furniture is designed by Ky, while Am manages the workshop and together they have produced countless pieces for many satisfied West Australians.

sfm has its origins with a teenage Am, working with Asian hardwoods in his home village in Laos, whilst Ky learnt her skills in a family tailoring business. Escaping the communist country to better their lives, Australia accepted their skills alongside many migrants at that time.

With not a cent to their name, Ky and Am worked in various menial jobs until 1987, where with the financial assistance from their land lord, Sunrise Furniture was bought with some very basic equipment and no clients.

Having limited English, and almost no funding, the first table was made out of the few boards of timber. With the money re-invested from this sale, two tables were made the next week until many years later the company is now a respected name in the industry making cabinets, desks, beds and many other beautiful heir loom pieces.

The keys to this success have been very simple according to Ky. Exceptional customer service, and obsessive commitment to quality.

"Am is a perfectionist, and will to this day inspect every single piece of furniture that leaves the factory floor" says Ky of her husbands attention to detail. This is combined with Ky's total dedication to her clients needs and service beyond the sale. From this, sfm has earned a loyal fan base of life long customers.
